It's time for Hospice

Mom is having a tough week. She started feeling sick to her stomach Saturday evening and has been getting worse since. Yesterday she had only chicken broth, and very little at that. She couldn't keep it down, she is getting weaker and more tired. The home health care nurse will be in tomorrow to see her. The doctor ordered medicine to calm her stomach tonight. I hope that helps and lets her get a good nights sleep.

Today we contacted hospice. We hope to meet with them in the next couple of days. Becky is leaving tomorrow to go back home to Milwaukee for a week and we had planned to have this meeting next Tuesday when she got back. Tonight we have decided not to wait. I will call them in the morning and ask to meet with them as soon as possible. At this point it is hard to know if Mom is experiencing a set back or a progression. The local hospice is a good, well managed chapter and we feel Mom is in need of more in home attention. I will let you know the outcome of this.

On a brighter note, Mom is expecting a VIP visit tomorrow also. Her sister Irene is coming for a visit and Mom is looking forward to it. This is just what she needs to boost her spirits. I just love how close Mom, Aunt Irene and Aunt Lucile are and we appreciate their families for taking time to bring them for these visits. It's the best prescription for her right now. When I told Mom Irene was coming she smiled and said "She will just make me laugh".

I will post again in a couple of days, take care. Jim

  1. This week at home for me is going to feel like forever. It always amazes me how posessive I become of my "charge". I love taking care of Mom. To me it is such an honor and it is one I am going to miss, but my own child is going to need me as well. She is going to be in good hands while I am away and the others will get a chance to experice the wonder that is our Mother one on one. She truely is an amazing women! God keep her safe till I return and take away her suffering.

She really does feel all your prayers and love,
    Becky

  3. Aunt Dorothy,
It is so hard to hear that you are sick. Who would have believed it after having such a great time last summer? Bear and I send our prayers and love to you. We have been lucky to eat your pies and visit with your family because of the golf outing.
You and Uncle Ray raised a great family, your children know and share true love and kindness to all.
We hope that we will fine some peace and comfort in these next months.
I want to cry and hug you at the same time but I will settle for knowing that your family will give you the best hugs and make you happy.
    I love you Aunt Dorothy.
    Love,
    Bear and Margie

  4. Good morning Aunt Dorothy,
The sun is up here and it is a beautiful morning. One that finds me thinking of you and wishing I could be there to give you a huge hug, a big kiss and be able to say I LOVE YOU!!
I am crying (yep, one of Pauline's blubbering girls here!)as I am writing this because I can't be there but I know that you get many loving hugs from your family. I know that God has you in His hands and can take comfort in that. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
I remember the very first Hen Party (that started a wonderful tradition) and watching the reaction you and Aunt Lucille had to a certain 'dancer', all of the laughs and the wonderful breakfast at your house the next morning!! Thanks for the memories, great food (especially those pies!) and the love you have shared with all of us!
Aunt Dorothy, I love you and am blessed for having you as an Aunt!
    Love, Dianne

  5. Hi Aunt Dorothy

I could not sleep this morning thinking of you. It is about 4:30 a.m. on a Thursday morning. Both of the boys are home this summer and I thought what the hell, start another load of laundry--I am sure that sounds familiar!!! I always wanted to know how you and mom and all of your sisters did it. You truly are loved by all of us. I read all of the blogs and like they all say, we all have been blessed to be a part of you and your families life. Memories are something no one can take from us. They are truly special. I hope you enjoyed my moms company on Mothers Day and I hope you enjoyed Aunt Irenes visit. As I know, and many others, sisters are VERY special to us. Take care Aunt Dorothy!! I love you! 6. I just want to say a big thanks to all the cousins and friends that have made comments on this website, I know Mom enjoys them. Thanks for all the well wishes and so on, the family is doing just fine, it was hard on all of us, at first but it helps knowing that she has people up above waiting for her. Fact is I said that Dad will meet her at the gate and they already have a hand dealt for her, with Poppy, grandma, Aunt Mary and Aunt Pauline, Uncle Hap and Uncle Arnold and so on and so on. Yes, she is a very special lady and all of us 12 kids love her so much and we have been so blessed to call her Mom all of these years....We love you all....Ann

You are two very special ladies and I also want to thank Uncle Ves and Aunt Jo for coming and visiting last week. We love you all...ann
