Heaven has a new Angel

It is my very sad duty to report to you all that Mom passed away at 4:30 a.m. this morning. She had such a tough time the last couple of days and mercifully the Lord has ended her suffering and called her home. We know she is in a better place now.

The arrangements aren't fully complete, but we are looking at having a visitation on Thursday evening and the funeral Friday morning. Karen and Bill's son Christopher is stationed in Afghanistan and they are making contact to bring him home. This will take a minimum of 48 hours. I will confirm these times and let you know as soon as I can.

Many of you know that I have been involved with the Elks Lodge here in Pontiac for the past 17 years or so. Whenever a member dies we honor them at the next meeting. Although Mom was not an Elk, these words are etched in my mind this morning. I don't think they will mind much if I use them for her today.

'In vain we call. She has passed into the light which is beyond the valley of the shadow of death. The places that have known her shall know her no more; but her virtues are written upon the tablets of love and memory.'

Rest in peace dear Mom, our love for you will go on forever. Jim

  1. Very well said Jim. Grandma was an amazing woman and we were blessed to have her in our lives for the time that we did. She will truly be missed, but we KNOW that she's already dancing in Heaven today!!!

  2. That was beautiful Jim! Even though I have only been a part of this family for a short time, it was easy to see that Grandma was defiantly the heart and soul of the family and will be deeply missed by all. I'm sure Grandpa was happy to see her again this morning and they are looking down on all of us, proud of the wonderful family that they created. Love you all! Nikki

  3. This is truly a sad day; however, I am so happy that Grandma is not suffering anymore. It was really tough these last couple of days to see her in pain.
I would like to say thanks to a host of people. Thank you Jim for this blog. I checked this blog just about everyday these last couple of months. Each blog is so beautifully written. Thank you Becky for everything: staying w/ Grandma, your nursing expertise, and your strength. Thank you to my dad, mom, Robin, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends for the delicious food, spending the night to care for Grandma, spending their days with her, prayers, and concern during this time. It is great that we could all join together at this time for Grandma. She is truely a remarkable woman that we could all learn from. In a word, she is selfless.
We all love you Grandma and we always will.

  5. Dear Jim and the entire Broerman family,
I am so sorry to learn of Dorothy's passing. She was a wonderful woman and always so good to me. She was patient, supportive and caring and really taught everyone around her about the values of love, fairness and forgiveness. Her faith guided her through some difficult times and inspired the rest of us by her example.

I was always amazed at how she could run such an orderly household yet find time to provide each child, grand-child or great-grandchild with love. She was really remarkable.

I will do my very best to be there on Friday to honor her memory. Tom and I have a court date Friday morning -- what we hope will be the last meeting with the judge regarding custody of Cierra. I will watch the paper for the service arrangements.

Dorothy’s time here on earth is now gone, but her kindess, guidance and words of wisdom will live on in our hearts.

    With deepest sympathy,
    Susan (Rittenhouse) Hazlett

  6. Jim, beautifully written, thank you.

I was so blessed to have Dorothy as my "mom" for over 35 years, she truly was a very amazing woman and everyone loved her so much.

She will be missed, but I bet she's already asking if anyone up there wants pie!!

It was great to see all of you and especially Aunt Dorothy before she crossed over. You all have my deepest sympathy, May the Lord heal all of your grief soon so that you can laugh at the life you shared until you all meet in Heaven.

  9. We have followed this blog since John and Mary first gave us the web site address. Jim, you did an amazing job! Dorothy has left a huge void in the Broerman family and she will be missed terribly. It was a privilege to have known her for the last 19 years. She is at peace and with Ray now and her wonderful family is her legacy. God bless you Dorothy.
    Love, Kathy and Bob Logan

  12. To the Family of Aunt Dorothy - I have to agree with sister Jayne on the writings of this blog. They were truly genuine and it gave us all a perspective of how precious life is. I just wanted to pass on a comment Mom (Aunt C) said this morning when I stopped in: "I am sure Dorothy is up in heaven playing cards with Ray!" We had some good laughs about the Wenning Family that we will have to share when we come up for the funeral. Again, thank you for letting us be a part of your lives with this blog. Love always, Peg, Tom, Brian & Brad Brunswick
